XXV International Brass Festival Italian Brass Week

2005

Italian Brass Week 2005

Summer festival in squares, churches and parks in the medieval village on the slopes of the Amiata
Italian Brass Week 2005
Concerts, advanced musical training courses, master classes:
side by side, young promises and great wind instrumentalists from the orchestras of Berlin, Munich, Chicago,
from the Scala and the Maggio Fiorentino
The “Italian Brass Week 2005” Festival will be particularly rich in new ensembles that are sure to appeal to the public for the choice of repertoires and for the virtuosity of the performers. Thanks to the international collaboration that the artistic director Luca Benucci (first horn of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra) has undertaken in recent years, orchestras and chamber ensembles from five continents will be welcomed in the program of the festival. During the days of the event, music will therefore be the constant soundtrack of this magnificent country.
The festival will host some of the most significant international youth orchestras, including AJO Amersfoort Youth Orchestra (Holland), Youth and Music Orchestra of Antwerp (Belgium), Sinfonica Band from Benidorm (Spain). We will continue in a symphonic-chamber path that will see the involvement of the Italian Wind and Brass Orchestra who will collaborate with soloists and conductors from the most famous orchestras in the world, such as Berliner Philharmoniker, Chicago Symphony, Teatro alla Scala, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Opera di Munich, Bavarian Radio Orchestra. As is the tradition of the festival, the spotlight will be focused above all on the repertoire for wind instruments: among the most significant appointments, in fact, the inaugural evening with the Nuovo Quintetto Italiano (20 July, consisting of soloists from the orchestras of La Scala, of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino , of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, of the Teatro Regio in Turin) and the one with the brass of the Santa Cecilia Symphony Orchestra (22 July, concert sponsored by Enel).
The concerts are free except for those in favor of UNICEF and UNCHR, for which a symbolic ticket of 10 euros will be required.

But Santa Fiora is not just concerts. Parallel to the festival, in fact, specialization courses and master classes for wind instruments will take place thanks to which young Italian musicians will be able to improve themselves with professionals arriving from the greatest orchestras in the world (from the Berliner Philharmoniker to the Chicago Symphony, from the Wiener Symphoniker to the Teatro alla Scala, from Santa Cecilia and the Maggio Fiorentino).
To guarantee the importance of the festival are the great names of music, art, culture and science who are part of the Honorary Committee: Michelangelo Antonioni, Ivor Bolton, Andrea Camilleri, James Conlon, Rita Levi Montalcini, Zubin Mehta, Laura Morante, Seiji Ozawa, Mtislav Rostropovich, Giorgio van Straten.
