The cradle of the Renaissance, Florence, will be the host city of the 18th Italian Brass Week international festival from 9-16 July 2017, a project both conceived and directed by Luca Benucci, Solo Horn of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra. International and Italian virtuosi soloists and professors, Jazz groups and Brass Ensembles will participate in masterclasses, concerts, and other musical events, each held in various notable locations in Florence such as the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Theatre, Palazzo Pitti, Ponte Vecchio, Bargello Museum, Santa Maria Novella Church and the Piazza della Signoria.
The summer evenings of the musical week will be illuminated by the world’s brass stars: Rex Richardson, Otto Sauter, Sergei Nakariakov, Andrea Tofanelli, Luca Benucci, Frank Lloyd , Alain Trudel, Francisco “Pacho” Flores, Jonathan Reith, Steve Rosse, Dale Clevenger, Roger Bobo, Anne Jelle Visser, Jamie Williams, Froydis Ree Wekre, Claudio Quintavalla, and Gabriele Malloggi.
International soloists and professors from the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Zurich Hochschule, Orchestra de Paris, Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Simon Bolivar Orchestra, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Karajan Academy will be the apex to Tuscany’s musical nights.
Maestros and students will return to Italy from all corners of the world for the 17th time, to give life to their instruments, to lift their musical aspirations, to share in unforgettable moments, to challenge themselves artistically, and to become champions of the great musical tradition.
The heart of this year’s festival is Florence: the cultural meeting place of Tuscan, Italian, and World history. A unique place where a fusion of the past and present marries itself to a projection toward the future, exactly as the mission of the festival was conceived by Maestro Benucci.
The key element of the week is universalism. Professors from Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the USA, Venezuela, Australia, Canada, Norway, and Russia will meet students from over 25 countries, from Japan to South America and everywhere in between.
The Italian Brass Week is proud to have initiated and continue partnerships with the following organizations, to name a few: European and World Brass Association, Florence Opera House "Maggio Musicale Fiorentino".
The prestigious Opera di Firenze will be the home to the Italian Brass Week’s various performing and educational activities.
