Chamber Music Program

Conductor

A musician first, Dale Clevenger describes himself as "a musician who plays the horn rather than a horn player who plays music." For a world-class soloist and pricipal orchestral player, conducting was the next step.

He became interested in conducting while playing in the American Orchestra League's Conductor's Workshop. He was nineteen and absorbed everything he could. While with the Chicago Symphony, he still absorbed the techniques of conducting - from many of the world's finest conductors directing the Chicago Symphony. In the early 1980's he served as music director of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra for fourteen years. His conducting career has included guest appearances with numerous other orchestras, including the New Japan Philharmonic, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Roosevelt University Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Conservatory Orchestra, the Northwestern University Summer Symphony, the Western Australia Symphony Orchestra, the Osaka Philharmonic, the National Philharmonic of Slovakia in Bratislava, the Sinfonia Crakovia and the Opole Philharmonic in Poland, and the Bartlesville (Oklahoma) Symphony Orchestra.

Luca Benucci

Mr. Benucci has been invited to play as Guest Principal Horn in many prestigious Orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Staatskapelle Solisten Berlin, Super World Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Orchestra Sinfonica di Barcelona, and the Radio Orchestra Svizzera Italiana. He still holds the full-time position of Principal Horn in the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra since 1995, under direction of Zubin Mehta.

When he isn’t working in the Orchestra, many of his other projects are done in collaboration with artists and musicians in chamber groups such as the Nuovo Quintetto Italiano, Italian Brass Ensemble, and the Brass Dimension Ensemble.

Brass Legend, Virtuoso Soloist, World Renown Teacher… These are just a few catch phrases associated with Roger Bobo. He is in demand world wide as a teacher of all brass instruments, adjudicator at major international competitions, and as a conductor.

Roger Bobo currently resides in Japan and teaches at the Musashino School of Music in Tokyo. Prior to this move to Tokyo he served as faculty at the Fiesole School of Music near Florence, Italy, at the Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland, and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.

His students currently occupy positions in major symphony orchestras and universities throughout the world, and several have gone on to develop successful solo careers of their own.

As a conductor, Roger Bobo has a strong background playing for and studying the rehearsal and conducting technique of the greatest conductors in the world. During his twenty-five years with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, he had close associations with Zubin Mehta, Carlo Maria Giulini and Andre Previn, not to mention the many world class guest conductors of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
